Happy New Years + Completed: 999 + 2012 Resolutions

Happy New Years everyone!
2011 is over and 2012 has just started. I hope 2012 will be a great year for everyone. :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So last night, I finished the DS game "999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors". This is the first game I've ever finished on the DS and the second game I've ever finished so far (my first one being "Kingdom Hearts" on the PS2).

This game was absolutely amazing. It's a point-and-click game and is heavily text-based and you proceed through the game by solving puzzles through each of the rooms you enter.  I prefer these kinds of games where I don't need to be checking a walkthrough or strategy guide every few minutes to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. ^_^" (But I did have to check a walkthrough every once in awhile to make sure I answered correctly or when I was having trouble solving a puzzle.)

So what's the game about? To put it simply, it's about 9 people (the ones on the game cover) who have been kidnapped and put on a ship to play a game called the "Nonary Game" (nona is a prefix for the number 9). They have 9 hours to find the door with a 9 on it and go through it, but in order to find that numbered door, they must go through several other numbered doors first and gather keys and cards that will allow them to open doors and use elevators throughout the ship. Each person has a numbered bracelet from either 1 to 9 that is used to activate the device next to the numbered doors. However, only 3 to 5 people can enter a numbered door and only those people with a digital root that adds up to the number on the door can activate and enter. The digital root can be found by adding numbers until you get 1 digit (for example, if you have 11, then its digital root will be 2). All that enter a numbered door must also find the deactivating device on the other side of that door to deactivate the detonators in the bracelets, which have activated when they go through the door. Oh, the detonators are for the bombs they swallowed during their kidnapping. Yup, pretty dangerous stuff. That's pretty much how the Nonary Game works.

What's really important about this game is everything you learn while playing through it. You get to learn about each of the characters as you proceed through each of the rooms in the game. This game also has several endings: a few bad endings, and vital endings. I played through all of the endings, starting with the bad ones and you get to understand why the characters do what they do. The "Safe" ending and the "True" ending explain the most about everything that had occurred during the game, especially the deaths of a few people. However, these 2 endings will not retell information that you've learned during other endings, so it's important to play through all the endings to have the most complete understanding of the game and its characters. I would love to talk about each of the characters, but that would result in major spoilers. ^_^"

Anyways, I highly recommend this game. It took me a week to finish and has a solid 30-40 hours of game play. I would totally play this game again. I hope its sequel, "Extreme Escape", will be just as awesome and I hope it gets localized to North America some time in 2012. <3
