Suugaku Joshi Gakuen Ep 6

I actually watched this episode when it came out, but I didn't have the time to blog about it at the time. I'll try to stick to the main part of the episode and not any side conversations. So here we go~

In this episode, a new transfer student (that was seen at the end of the previous episode) appears named Harajuku Tomoko (played by Tsugunaga Momoko, the member who is known to have a burikko character from the group Berryz Koubou), who has a very frilly school uniform. She has her own footstep sound effects and she does Momoko's famous "Yurishite nyan~" move.
Tomoko: Yurushite nyan~
She does this because she is "apologizing" that she is now the most beautiful and cutest girl in class, which gets Sayuri upset. She continues to say that she is a genius, despite coming from a normal high school, all while in her over-the-top cute voice and mannerisms. Kazuki notices that the way Tomoko acts and says things is just like Sayuri and comes to the conclusion that Tomoko is Sayuri's shorter double. ^_^" He then notices how pissed Sayuri is and freaks out and so does everyone else with Mami going "jiken yo".
Sayuri: A rival? Pshh.
Mami: Jiken yo!
Tomoko pushes it to the max trying to get everyone to call her "Tomochi" like little puppies. She then says that she's "kawaii nyan~". Sayuri is just growling at her like a lion on the inside. The atmosphere is tense.

After the opening, we see that Sayuri is so pissed that she actually broke some really nice chopsticks. O_O So scary. Nina convinces Sayuri that she should get to know Tomoko and maybe they can be good friends. Since it's Nina that's telling her this, Sayuri says that she'll try her best to be friends with Tomoko. Sayuri finds Tomoko and politely says "hi", but Tomoko says "I know you. You're Sayuri and now you're the second cutest in the class!" Sayuri is even more mad. Tomoko also notices Nina and gets the name wrong of Nina's favourite food. Tomoko says "sorry" and Nina is like "don't worry about it". But of course, Tomoko is like "what does it matter anyway?" What a horrible person to talk to. >.<  Sayuri and Nina put their strengths together and vow not to be beaten by Tomoko.

In class, the teacher asks who can solve the question on the board. Tomoko volunteers, but is all like "I don't know if I can do it" and pisses off Sayuri even more who ends up asking the teacher to let her try to. It's a head-to-head battle about who can solve the math problem, but Tomoko leaves Sayuri in her dust like it was nothing, even though she was saying "this is so hard" and stuff. She just doesn't stop her taunting does she? @.@ There ends up being a fashion show in the hallway where Sayuri and Tomoko try to outdo each other with pretty lolita dresses and even princess ballgowns. The male teacher says that they should stop, unless they want to get expelled.

After school, Kazuki is trying to convince Sayuri to stop all of this, but Sayuri ends up telling him the story about how she got beat in elementary in terms of being the cutest, even though she was so popular, and she wants to get revenge against that girl who was smart, cute and took the #1 place. Sayuri says that it was so frustrating and she never wants to lose to anyone.

There is always a part in the episode where Nina talks to the nurse. Mostly talking about friendship and getting into fights. The nurse says that she got along well with Nina's sister, and Nina says that she used to fight a lot when she was younger. Their conversation is interrupted when a student tells them that Sayuri and Tomoko are fighting in the classroom and are literally pulling each other's hair and clothes off. Nina says that this can only be settled by "that", which is something that was created 120 years ago.

What is "that"? The "that" is an "obstacle" course made up of 3 parts: tricycle riding around cones, jumping and trying to grab a piece of bread that is hanging using only your mouth, and then running with the bread in your mouth all the way to the finish line.

In the tricycle riding, Sayuri is not moving too quickly because she's too big for the tricycle and ends up falling off of it, but Tomoko is smooth sailing through this part of the course.
Sayuri falls off her tricycle.
Here comes the math of this episode, which is F = mv^2 / r. F = force, m = mass, v = velocity, r = radius. This equation is used for centripetal force, which is the force produced when you go around in a circular motion, which is what Sayuri and Tomoko are doing on the tricycles as they go around the cones. The idea is that since Tomoko is smaller, she can ride closer to the cones (smaller radius), hence she'll be faster than Sayuri if they were both using the same amount of force. Also, we can assume that Sayuri weighs more than Tomoko, which would also mean that Tomoko goes faster. Tomoko going faster than Sayuri due to radius and mass is only true if they were using the same amount of force.

Back to the battle, Sayuri gets back on the tricycle, but only moves like a couple of centimetres before she moves onto the jumping for bread part of the battle, which Tomoko is already at, but she is struggling because of her height. All along this battle, Kazuki does not understand how this battle can determine who is the cutest. Sayuri and Tomoko both grab the bread at the same time and "run" to the finish line (that is so not running though...) and it is a photo finish.
Synchronized hanging bread get!
Synchronized not-really-running
Photo finish?
But honestly, the camera is at an angle and not dead on with the finish line, so it's impossible to determine the winner because of the angle. Also, usually runners put their heads down as they go through the finish line. But from what we've seen above, we can't expect much out of these two in terms of running. ^_^" Anyway, Sayuri "wins" only because her cup size is a B, while Tomoko is an A cup. Kazuki can't believe that it was determined like that.
Sayuri: I'm the #1 girl!
Sayuri is all like "this battle clearer showed who is the one on top", and Tomoko goes on to saying that Sayuri has grown up. Sayuri doesn't understand, but soon finds out when Tomoko tells her that they went to elementary school together and was the one that stole first place from Sayuri. Tomoko can't believe that Sayuri didn't recognize her all this time. Tomoko won in elementary school, but Sayuri wins this battle. Of course, they are eternal rivals though.

Wait... Where is the punishment? (The episode ends with no punishment game. ^_^")

Side note: What I really like about this episode is that there has always been a kind of debate in H!P about who is the cutest. Both Michishige Sayumi and Tsugunaga Momoko claim that they are the cutest, so this episode is very interesting because of this.
