Suugaku Joshi Gakuen Ep 5
My weekly dose of math in a j-drama. ^-^
This episode starts out with Kazuki reading a letter that he's writing to students at Edogawa high school about his time at this math school that he's in. He says that everyday of the 3 weeks he's been at this math school have been bright and he's met classmates that are very special to him. He also says that all the girls are cute, so he's been having fun everyday. But that's honestly not what's been happening (seeing flashbacks) and he wants to go back to his old school.
Kazuki finds the male teacher and asks him to help him transfer to a super normal school. He can't handle all the math and the girls. The male teacher says that Kazuki should just find love, since he can freely love any girl while the male teacher can't. He also says that it would be a pain to transfer him to another school.
Kazuki is moping again until a girl named Yuri (played by Suzuki Airi from ºC-ute) comes up to him and says "Hi" and asks if he's gotten used to the school yet. She then says some math stuff that he doesn't understand. But then she says that she thinks she's fallen in love with him and that she'll love him (Aishiteruzo~). Kazuki is in shock. Nina comes in and notices this and says that if Yuri likes him, then they should just go out, but Kazuki will still be Nina's servant during school hours.
Kazuki then stalks Yuri to find out what she's saying about him. The other girls are giddy with her for confessing her love. Sayuri finds it gross that Kazuki is just staring. Kazuki asks who Yuri is and Sayuri says that she's Uehara Yuri and she has a cute angel character. Kazuki makes a pun about Yuri being cute (because she's from the group ºC-ute, he also did this with Mami in episode 2). Sayuri tells Kazuki to be careful because Yuri is so pure and will go out with him, but might throw him out if she confesses to some other person.
The male teacher calls for homeroom and says that he's going to switch up the assigned seating to freshen up a bit later on in the day.
The scene cuts to the nurse watering some plants while singing "Morning Coffee" (Morning Musume's debut single) terribly, which Nina is not afraid to mention. (This part is actually kind of embarrassing because the actress, Niigaki Risa, can sing just fine. I don't understand why they made her sing this song badly on purpose. @.@) The nurse mentions that Kazuki got confessed to and Nina can't believe news flies so quickly. Nina doesn't really care about the whole Kazuki thing, but the nurse asks if Nina has any lovers. Nina says that she doesn't have any as math, mentaiko bread and tonkotsu ramen are more than enough for her to love. The nurse says that it's so like Nina to think like that.
Kazuki goes back to class and finds Nina sleeping on his bag. He tries to take it away from her and she pulls back telling him to let go of her pillow, but he ends up pulling harder than Nina is able to hold on and she ends up grabbing him instead right when Yuri walks into class. Mami does her signature "Jiken yo!" (this is a case). Yuri is pissed at this scene and says that Nina should battle her for Kazuki. Nina's stomach grumbles and says that she'll go get some tonkotsu ramen, totally avoiding the battle proposition.
Nina comes back and ends up sleeping in class. The male teacher says that he'll start with switching up the seating arrangement when Yuri convinces the male teacher to let her do it, using her cuteness and charm. The male teacher just smiles and lets her handle it.
Here's the video of me explaining the math problem in detail:
In this battle, Mami takes over as ref, since she's the back-up ref. If Yuri wins, she gets the sit next to Kazuki and if Nina wins, she gets the seat in the back.
When a first saw this math problem, I didn't get where the 16, 11 and 3 came from in the probability equations. This is because Nina doesn't mention that these numbers refer to pairs of seats, which I find is pretty important information to point out and would throw anyone off trying to figure out this problem. I was quite proud of myself for figuring this out.
So Kazuki still thinks 8% to 15% are still pretty low percentages. Nina says that even if they are low, Yuri still did something that was unfair. Yuri is punished by having to put her hands into a box and touch what's inside the box. Of course screaming ensues when she finds out something slimy and alive is in the box. ^_^"
The episode ends with a new girl (played by Tsugunaga Momoko from Berryz Koubou), who is a new transfer student and at first she seems very serious until she goes "gambaru nyan" and makes cutesy soft bouncy step sound effects towards the school.
I also forgot to mention that there is a girl who is around Yuri all the time, but her name is never mentioned, but the actress is Saho Akari. She's a Hello! Project Egg graduate and is now part of Up-Up Girls, also known as UFZS. She was one of my favourite eggs, so I felt I had to give her special mention even though she was never introduced, doesn't speak and is pretty much only in the background, but you see her quite a few times "helping" or at at least beside Yuri.
So I guess I was wrong when I thought there would be no more whiteboard problems. I wonder what's going to happen in the next episode. I'm definitely looking forward to it. :3
